Tennis: Poland’s Świątek starts week 100 as WTA world No. 1

Poland's Iga Świątek has started her 100th week at the top of the Women's Tennis Association's (WTA) world rankings, with a 2,712-point lead over her nearest rival.
The Polish player last week reached the semifinals of the Stuttgart Open clay-court tournament in Germany, where she was beaten on Saturday by Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-4, 3-6.
Last month, Świątek won the BNP Paribas Open tournament at Indian Wells, California, claiming her 19th career singles title.

The 22-year-old Pole in November regained her spot at the top of the world rankings in women's tennis after winning the season-ending WTA Finals tournament in Mexico.

The Polish star, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, now leads the WTA rankings with 10,560 points, ahead of Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, with 7,848 points, and American Coco Gauff, with 7,258.

The second-highest ranked Polish female player, Magda Linette, moved up 12 spots to No. 48 in the latest WTA rankings.
Linette on Sunday lost the final of the WTA 250 Open de Rouen event in Rouen, France to Sloane Stephens of the United States 1-6, 6-2, 2-6.
