Iga Świątek has been named Poland’s best athlete of 2022 by Poland's “Przegląd Sportowy” sports magazine.

In the poll, held by Przegląd Sportowy for the 88th year, the 21-year-old French Open and US Open Grand Slams winner came ahead of three-time speedway world champion and 2019 poll winner Bartosz Zmarzlik and three-time poll winner (2015, 2020, 2021), top striker Robert Lewandowski.

The award was received on behalf of the young tennis star by her father, Tomasz. Świątek is currently in the Antipodes, training for the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament.

She recorded a short speech for the guests of the gala, which took place in Warsaw, in which, not yet knowing the results of the poll, she thanked the fans for their votes and promised to fight for accolades in 2023 as well.

The poll also awarded Świątek’s coach Tomasz Wiktorowski “Coach of the Year” title.
