Poland's Iga Świątek has bowed out of the Canadian Open tennis tournament in Toronto, after suffering a shock defeat to Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia in the third round of the women's singles on Thursday.
The Polish world No. 1 was stunned 4-6, 6-3, 5-7 by the 24th-ranked Brazilian player, who picked up one of the biggest wins of her career.

Świątek this summer helped raise more than PLN 2 million (EUR 430,000, USD 440,000) for Ukraine during an exhibition tournament in the southern Polish city of Kraków.
The Polish player in June won the French Open Grand Slam tournament in Paris for the second time.
The 21-year-old, coached by countryman Tomasz Wiktorowski, in early April took over as the new number one in women's tennis, becoming the first Pole to top the world rankings.
